Guide for Civil Dialogue on Promoting Older People’s Social Inclusion

The intention of the Guide is to present some good practice examples of civil dialogue on ageing issues including those that promote social inclusion in old age. The Guide also makes some proposals on how best to implement and participate in the civil dialogue process across all national 
policy-making levels: from governmental level down through to regional and local level strategies and initiatives which aim to improve the daily lives of older people.

Screening for hearing, visual and dual sensory impairment in older adults using behavioural cues: A validation study

A validation of the article “Sjekkliste for kartlegging av kombinerte alvorlige sansetap blant eldre” (Kolbein Lyng, Else Marie Svingen).
This study investigated the psychometric properties of the Severe Dual Sensory Loss screening tool, a tool designed to help nurses and care assistants to identify hearing, visual and dual sensory impairment in older adults.

The checklist is developed for use in nursing and care services where the staff knows the users from everyday life. The questions in the checklist refer to typical behavioral characteristics for severe visual- and hearing impairment and one question about possession of technical aids for vision and/or hearing.

Reinforcing the human rights of older persons in need of care and assistance to protect dignity in old age and combat elder abuse

On the occasion of the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, AGE co-organised a high-level seminar addressing the issue of older people’s human rights in the area of long-term care. The event presented two new relevant EU initiatives and discussed how to strengthen legal protection of older people in need of care and assistance and safeguard dignity in old age.
